We will have an array of activities and raffles throughout the week,
starting with bagels from Manhattan Bagel.
The Friends of the Library are raffling a NOOK
-the Barnes and Nobles eReader-
for $5 per raffle ticket

In addition, the library is giving each patron a raffle ticket
towards a drawing of great gifts
contributed by our local merchants.
Gifts include theater tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants,
gift certificate to a local hair salon, and more.
Don't miss special chocolate treats during the week

Last but not least....
a musical program starring Jim Crawford,
starting at 2pm on Saturday, April 16th.

We like the description. Who would think that once a month the library transforms into a musical oasis? It is an oasis of different sorts throughout the month - but on Acoustic Saturdays, the beautiful New Jersey Room at RBPL transforms into a cozy intimate setting for local musicians.

SATURDAY, February 12: STORYTELLERS IN CLOTH at Red Bank Library.
Three borough-based outposts of culture get together on February 12, when the Red Bank Public Library plays host to an event that’s being presented by Frank Talk founder (and author and educator and local broadcaster) Gilda Rogers, abetted by the folks at Two River Theater Company. Featured as part of the observance of Black History Month, “Storytellers in Cloth” is a display that examines the centuries-old African American quilting tradition in America — from the days when slaves preserved and passed along their cultural heritage by crafting quilts from discarded clothing and feed sacks, to the people who keep the folk art tradition alive in the 21st century. In a free event scheduled from 2:30 to 5:30p, Rogers will be introducing a presentation by Storytellers in Cloth founders Gloria Douglas and Michelle Lewis — and, as an extra added attraction, a troupe of TRTC players will perform a play reading that pays tribute to the quilting tradition.

Beannacht is the musical duo of guitarist/singer/songwriter Thomas Johnston and his niece, lead vocalist and lyricist Deirdre Forrest. They play a mix of Irish/Celtic, classic rock, folk, and blues, including original songs. Both musicians are heavily influenced by nearly all genres of music and especially enjoy being able to share their Irish culture through their music. Beannacht is a famous poem by Celtic writer and spiritualist John O'Donohughe and the word beannacht translates to "blessing" in the Irish form of the Gaelic language.

WELCOME VIRGINIA PAPANDREA!!
The Red Bank Public Eisner Memorial Library would like to introduce the new Interim Library Director, Virginia A. Papandrea. Ms Papandrea is replacing Deborah Griffin-Sadel, Director for 12 years who is leaving to pursue a new opportunity. Ms Papandrea will start January 18th and be acting director during the time that a search committee, consisting of members of the Library Board of Trustees, community and staff, need to hire a permanent director.
The Board wants to assure the patrons of the Library that services and hours of operation will not be affected by this change in personnel and that they look forward to continuing and improving the vital role of the Library in Red Bank.
Please come in and meet the new interim library director!

Best of 2010 from Harper Collins Canada

December 2010
2010 has been an incredible year for literature and for HarperCollins Canada. We are proud of every single one of our books, but a few keep popping up on all the year-end lists.
Room by Emma Donoghue, winner of Rogers Writers’ Trust Award for Fiction and shortlisted for the prestigious 2010 man Booker Prize, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, an Oprah’s Book Club pick and Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda, the break-out hit and #1 bestseller. These three have been making more ‘best of’ lists than we can keep up with.Need more? How about Dianne Warren’s Cool Water, winner of the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, David Bergen’s The Matter with Morris, shortlisted for the Giller, and Paul Harding’s Tinkers, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction? If you haven't read any of these yet, you're one of the few. (But luckily there are a few days left in the year).
One more accomplishment we have to recognize, Lawrence Hill’s The Book of Negroes passed a huge milestone: selling over 500,000 copies in Canada!
Thanks to all of our Savvy Readers and we hope you continue to enjoy all that we have to offer in 2011.

MAJOR ROAD CLOSURE IN RED BANK NOV 11-19
NJ TRANSIT ADVISES RED BANK MOTORISTS OF UPCOMING DETOUR
West Bergen Place railroad crossing closed for repairs November 11-19
Beginning on or about Thurs., Nov. 11 and continuing through Fri., Nov. 19, 2010, NJ TRANSIT will make improvements to the W. Bergen Pl. railroad crossing in Red Bank.
To accommodate this work, West Bergen Place will be closed to motor vehicles between
Maple and Shrewsbury avenues during this time. (Local traffic only; no motor vehicles
may cross tracks.) All motorists will be detoured around the crossing.
