WHAT TO KEEP, WHAT TO TOSS

How does a library manage its collection? It is a tough call, deciding which classics to keep and which classics are no longer "relevant". Read Bobbi Seidel's column from the Asbury Park Press 6/20/09 regarding just this topic....

ONLY ONE RED BANK

Website for all things going on in Red Bank! No, not Red Bank Green or Red Bank Orbit which are great fun but are mainly current happenings. This new website lists restaurants (even VIA 45 which is relatively new, replacing Thyme Square on Broad Street), coupons(!) but best of all, upcoming EVENTS! So you can find out about Street Life, Movies in the Park, Sidewalk Sale....all the great stuff going on in Red Bank. And its all at only one site:

AND DON'T FORGET, WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE TO DO IN RED BANK
YOU CAN USUALLY FIND THE LIBRARY OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS!
SO COME VISIT!
SUMMER HOURS: M 10-9, T 10-5, W 10-9, Th 10-9, F 1-5 and S 9 -1 (yes, we're open)

JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB - A MUST SEE!

I've been struggling to find a good movie lately. They are all so sad or brutal or silly. I did enjoy Frozen River and recommend it highly. But it didn't sweep me off my feet and make me want to immediately sit through another viewing. The Jane Austen Book Club did just that for me.

The ensemble cast of JABC (forgive me but I am not just on a first name basis with the characters but even ready to give them nicknames!) is familiar from various TV programs and movies. Most of them feel like old friends. But few if any have actually acted together on the screen. By the end of this movie you feel like they are family and you hope that they just keep making movies together.

By the way, you don't have to be a Jane Austen fan to like this movie. But it does make you want to go back and reread a few of them if you are a fan!

ANOTHER BUSY DAY IN RED BANK!

Runners are milling about Red Bank after the annual George Sheehan Classic .... it was a beautiful morning for a run or a jog or a walk. Even a stroll down the center of Broad Street would be fun on a morning like this.

Post race hopefully all the spectators and runners are buying some coffee and other assorted means of sustenance. So far they aren't crowding the library but that is okay. We were busy all week during the frequent rain showers and happy to have the streets filled with sun deprived people. And happy too that people are respecting our library-only parking lot. Thanks everyone!

ALICE MUNRO WINS MAN BOOKER INTL 2009

I haven't read her short stories before but I just checked and we have quite a few of her collections in the library. Her new book comes out in a few months. I'm going to check out The View from Castle Rock and see what she is all about......
